Published research paper: Kalogerou M. et al. Omega-3 fatty acids promote neuroprotection, decreased apoptosis and reduced glial cell activation in the retina of a mouse model of OPA1-related autosomal dominant optic atrophy. Exp Eye Res. Feb. 2022

These findings by Ophthalmos Research team support the use of omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids as a therapy for autosomal dominant optic atrophy.

Omega-3 fatty acid supplementation has neuroprotective effects on the retinas of a mouse model of OPA1-related autosomal dominant optic atrophy by  blocking the inflammatory activation of astrocytes and microglia  and by suppressing the proapoptotic Bcl-2-associated X protein and caspase-3 in the retinas.
